Girl You Know It’s True: Milli Vanilli is still captivating, fascinating and extremely moving in the summer of 2024. Wim Wenders guides us through Japan and accompanies Hyrayama, who cleans public toilets in Tokyo every day with unwavering calm, meticulousness and composure. He seems content with his simple, secluded life and devotes himself to his passions for music and literature away from the structured daily routine. “Perfect Days” is a deeply moving, poetic reflection on the beauty of the everyday, on light, shadows, trees and movement. The lead role is embodied by Kōji Yakusho in such an engaging way that you just want to watch him go through his routines forever. This meditation in slowness is also a nod to musicians such as The Animals, Patti Smith and, of course, Lou Reed, whose song “Perfect Day” gives the film its title. A perfect film!
